What is the Wilson Reading System?

The Wilson Reading System is a structured language program designed for students who have difficulty reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding). It uses a multisensory approach that maximizes learning for students who have not internalized the sound and syllable system for reading and spelling.

How does Wilson differ from traditional reading instruction?...is it just for Special needs population? …or can anyone benefit from Wilson Reading instruction?

               Although Wilson Reading was designed to meet the needs of individuals with dyslexia, students benefit from the program whether or not they have this diagnosis. Anyone can benefit from Wilson Reading instruction! Children, teens and adults! People who are English language learners, or people who are having difficulty reading and/or spelling. Comprehension skills are also built into  Wilson instruction.

Finding a certified Wilson tutor can be challenging!!! You won’t easily find one by looking in the yellow pages, or even by surfing the web!  How can you even be sure that a Wilson tutor is the right kind of tutor for your needs?

So what can you do?

Sometimes you can find one attached to a local tutoring center.  You can ask your friends and neighbors if they know of a Certified Wilson Reading System tutor. You can ask you school districts CST for help finding a Wilson tutor. You could try to contact Wilson Reading Systems direct.
